EDUCITY@ISKANDAR
ENGINEERING WORLD CLASS ENGINEERS

Hailing from United Kingdom, the University of Southampton has long been known for its expertise in engineering and research. Spreading its wings into the South East Asian region, it was recently announced that they are setting up the University of Southampton Malaysia Campus (USMC), their first international campus, at the heart of EduCity@Iskandar.

Scheduled to open the doors of its Malaysia campus in 2012, USMC will be offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in electrical, mechanical and aerospace engineering. For its first intake, USMC will welcome 60 students to its undergraduate courses in engineering taught by Southampton professors. These students will then undertake their final two years at Southampton's United Kingdom campus. In 2020, USMC will be operating at full capacity with 1,150 students. This will further supplement EduCity@Iskandar's expected student population of 16,000.

Ranked among the top 100 universities in the world, University of Southampton will be setting up a 1.39 acre campus, which will be part of the 7 acre Multi-Varsity Enterprise Complex in EduCity. USMC will join the Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology on this complex, which will also house a Student Centre.

USMC is expected to benefit the community both by producing top-notch students and enhancing the quality and education opportunities offered in the region.

With EduCity@Iskandar attracting major educational institutions such as the University of Southampton, the Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology and Newcastle University; EduCity@Iskandar is proving to be an attractive destination for the top names in education. This will also strengthen Malaysia's standing as a choice destination for higher education within the region, a vision EduCity@Iskandar is aiming for.

The 305-acre EduCity@Iskandar is Iskandar Investment Berhad's (IIB) education Entry Point Project (EPP), under one of the National Key Economic Areas (NKEA) identified by the Government of Malaysia. EduCity is being developed by Education@Iskandar Sdn Bhd, a fully-owned subsidiary of IIB. It strives to provide a platform for inter-faculties of world-renowned universities to work together within a multi-varsity university environment.
